TouchDesigner Workshop
101 Crash Course to Touchdesigner Fundamentals
Project Details:
A crash-course in the 101 basics of the realtime interactive programming software TouchDesigner at the University of Limerick.
Location: University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland
The Team:
Scott Robinson, Róisín Berg, Pauric Freeman, Sorcha Hassett
Funded by the University of Limerick. Supported by Derivative
We were approached by the visual artist Pauric Freeman to explore the idea of initiating some TouchDesigner events in Ireland, precluding Derivatives tour of Europe to be able to host events in the following year. We approached the lectures in DMARC in the University of Limerick to explore the idea of a day of workshops and seminars revolving around TouchDesigner learning.
I devised a 2 hour crash course to give people the rundown of TouchDesigner, covering the interface, the different operator families, and possibilities for out-of-the-box interactivity. The goal was to help people who have never opened TouchDesigner to come to grips with some of its unusual concepts and to get them started building their own patches.
This was followed by Pauric Freeman's Seminar on how he performs, followed by his workshop on audio reactive performance systems. The day was rounded off with an impromptu show-and-tell in Pharmacia Bar in Limerick, open to anyone to bring their TD patches, synths or whatever to have a jam.
